On the way, they saw some interesting geology and the imposing summit of Sajama (top center). Inca ruins (middle row) were another highlight of the trip. The team explored the salar, finding lots of salt, some springs, some halite, an "island", and even some traces of life. A long descent brought them back to the waiting trucks and finally home to the refuge for a llama dinner. The team leapt into action, and fortunately the paraglider (not pictured) wasn't seriously injured. After driving across the altiplano and many tiny villages, the team arrived and was treated to a warm welcome, some traditional dance, and a sumptuous banquet. The group was greated by high winds but was in high spirits after a successful climb.
