in the NASA OSS Education and Public Outreach Conference,
June 12-14, 2002, in Chicago.
Conduct ES teacher workshop, the purpose of which was
to "Brainstorm" ways of improving the ES user
interface and curriculum with first hand users of the
product.
Participated in a collaboration meeting at the Alder
Planetarium with the Director of Astronomy.

in San Diego we have 200 requests for the EventScope
software and curriculum.

March 9-15, EventScope team member Sarah McElfresh,
Planetary Geologist at the University of Pittsburgh,
presented EventScope at the Lunar and Planetary Science
Conference.
On
March 27-30, EventScope exhibited at the National
Science Teachers Association Annual Exposition.
February
2002:
The
National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance
(NCIIA) awarded Peter Coppin in support of a multi-disciplinary
course on Telepresence that Coppin will teach in the
Fall of 2002. Peter and his team also secured funds
and other resources such as co-teachers from the following
CMU departments: Graduate School of Industrial Administration,
The Entertainment Technology Center, and the School
of Art. While this class is not directly tied to the
EventScope project, the team anticipates that some
of the ideas generated in this class may have applications
related to EventScope.
Also
in February, Dana Martinelli, EventScope Lead Visual
Designer, was the recipient of the Carnegie Mellon
College of Fine Arts Innovator Award.
November
2001
Peter Coppin and Ron McCloskey presented EventScope
at the Three Rivers Educational Technology Conference
on November 8, 2001. The second phase of EventScope
deployment began in two school districts in Washington,
PA. The EventScope team and the participating schools
are extremely excited to begin the testing and evaluation
of EventScope's new curriculum and software, which has
been made more engaging and game-like.

Curriculum
Developer Junlei Li conducted an all-day workshop
for middle school students in C-MITES, Carnegie Mellon
Institute for Talented Elementary Students (http://outreach.mac.cc.cmu.edu/C-MITES/),
on October 6, 2001. Peter Coppin presented the paper,
"EventScope: A Telescience Interface for Internet-Based
Education" at SPIE (The International Society
for Optical Engineering) Photonics Boston Conference,
which was held on October 28, 2001.
